CCYB/S Summer Softball
by posted 05/18/2018

We have begun planning for our 2018 Summer Softball League!

Preliminary Registration Closes on Tomorrow, Sunday May 20th!  Register Now!

This year CCYBS will again participate in the MiddleEssex League.

We plan to field teams for girls of ages U10,U12, U14, and U18.

Please Click Here to register your daughter for registrations/tryouts.

Over the past two years we’ve seen tremendous growth of our 10U and 12U programs.  Due to the increased interest we’ll be conducting a 2 part registration.  All players interested in trying out will register with the preliminary links supplied here.  Once teams are formed we’ll send out a secondary link with the registration information and collect the registration fees.

Registration cost will be $175 this season.  Uniform costs will be additional like we did for the spring season. However Pants, Socks, Belts will all remain the same.  Depending on the number of teams, Jerseys may or may not change color and/or number, so I’d plan on replacing them at about a $40 cost when we open up the store.  This again will all be determined after team formation.

MiddleEssex is a competitive summer softball league comprised of players from towns all over the metro north Boston area.  The level of play will be higher than it is this spring.   Practices will start early June, summer play will normally start the last week of June and end the first week of August.

We look to have teams of around 15-20 players, and expect players to come to about 2/3rds of the games.  These larger team sizes allow families the flexibility to take vacations.

If it becomes necessary to hold evaluations we will contact everyone with the dates/times of it.  This will only be necessary if we have too many registrants and can’t accept all players.

Registration will be open to players in the following age groups:

·  U10:  Players must be 9 or 10 years old on January 1st, 2018.  (Click Here)

·  U12:  Players must be 11 or 12 years old on January 1st, 2018. (Click Here)

·  U14:  Players must be 13 or 14 years old on January 1st, 2018. (Click Here)

·  U18:  Players must be 15-18 years old on January 1st, 2018. (Click Here)

Notes:

* CCYB will adhere to the MiddleEssex eligibility rules for players.  Players are expected to play within their age group and *not* their grade.  (Note:  this is different from our spring age brackets)

*  Roster Eligibility - Due to League eligibility requirements, our teams are open to players who live in Concord or Carlisle.

Many years, we have placed all girls who are interested in playing. However in some years, when we've had a high interest level, we've had to take girls on as alternates.  We normally look to place enough girls on each team so that we can maintain some flexibility in attendance, knowing that vacations and other summer activities do conflict.

Here’d some more scheduling information:

  • We ask that girls making a commitment to the team plan on making about 2/3rds  of games on the schedule.
  • We will have 14 MiddleEssex Games over a 7 week period.
  • Games are normally twice a week on the weekday evenings, with as needed practice on the weekends or weekdays.

PLEASE REGISTER BEFORE 5/18/2018

Baseball Bat Rules for 2018
by posted 11/21/2017

Baseball Bat Rules for 2018

USA Baseball has developed a new baseball bat standard in 2018.  This new standard will be adopted by most leagues nationally for ages 15U and younger, including:  Little League, Cal Ripken, Babe Ruth, Pony League, AAU, and EBL (among others).  This will affect the bat rules for ALL leagues and divisions that CCYB/S participates in, including: Spring in-town baseball; Rebels baseball; Spring and Summer Minuteman (Babe Ruth) baseball; the Jimmy Fund League; Bay State Baseball; Lou Tompkins Baseball, and the Fall Baseball League (Little League and Babe Ruth).

Starting on January 1, all baseball bats used by CCYB/S players 12U and younger must have the 2018 USA Baseball Stamp on them.  For Babe Ruth players 13U – 15U, bats must have the USA stamp *or* bats must be BBCOR (Batted Ball Coeffecient of Restitution) 0.50 bats. For Babe Ruth players 16U – 18U, only BBCOR 0.50 bats are allowed.

We will be providing a limited number of USA 2018 stamped and BBCOR bats for all CCYB/S teams in 2018 (except for Rebels teams).  Players wishing to purchase and use their own bats for 2018 should make sure their bats follow the USA Baseball or BBCOR standards.

Summary & Other Information:

  • For 12U and younger, all bats in 2018 must have the USA Baseball Stamp.
  • For 13U – 15U, bats must have the USA Baseball Stamp or are BBCOR 0.50 bats.
  • For 16U – 18U, bats must be BBCOR 0.50 bats.
  • Bats approved for Little League in 2017 or earlier are no longer legal bats.
  • Bats with 2 5/8” barrels are now legal, as long as they are USA Baseball approved or are BBCOR 0.50 bats.
  • “USSSA” stamped bats are *not* legal.

Honor an athlete, a team, or a coach!
by posted 04/25/2017

The three major phases of CC at Play’s fields renovation project at CCHS are complete and CCYB/S is better off for it!  The renovation of the softball and baseball fields, and the addition of hitting tunnels and bullpens, will benefit our players for years to come.  The addition of ADA accessible pathways to all the fields will benefit fans of all ages.  We are proud to say that CCYB/S (in partnership with the other youth sports organizations) made a contribution to help fund the project.

This summer, CC at Play will put finishing touches onto the project.  They plan to build a maintenance building, add wayfinding signage, and install landscaping at the entrances.  To fund this final phase of work, they are selling engraved bricks that will pave the area around the new flagpole in the stadium.  These bricks are a great way to honor a graduate, celebrate a team, thank a coach or teacher, or celebrate an alum.  Bricks can be purchased at www.CCatPlay.org.  Create a memory to mark your place at CC!
